Mg is the principal element in the 5005 aluminium sheet and when it used as main alloying element or combined with Mn, high strength and no-heat treatable properties can be realized. 5005 aluminium sheet has many tempers available, such as 5005-H12, 5005-H14,  5005-H16,  5005-H18, 5005-H22,  5005-H24, 5005-H32, 5005-H34,  5005-H36,  5005-H38 etc.

Aluminium alloy 5005 contains nominally 0.8% magnesium. It has medium strength, good weldability, and good corrosion resistance in marine atmospheres. Aluminium alloy 5005 is a lean aluminium magnesium alloy which can be hardened by cold work: it is not heat treatable to higher strength.

General Features

  5005 is a non-heat treatable alloy with magnesium content. It can be strengthened (hardened) by cold working. It scores well in weld-ability, formability, and corrosion resistance (especially when anodized).

1. Medium Intensity. Similarly, 5005 aluminum sheet is a non-heat-treated alloy that is cold-machined to improve its strength.

2. Good Formability. Under the condition of hardening or annealing in semi-cold working, the plasticity of 5005 aluminum alloy is good, but in cold working, the strength increases, and the plasticity is low.

3. Excellent Weather Resistance. The strength of 5005 aluminum sheet, whose surface is treated by anodic oxidation, will not decrease with the decrease of temperature. No low temperature brittleness occurs

4. Physical Properties. 5005 aluminum tensile strength σb(MPa) is 100~205, elongation δ110 (%) is 1~8.

The main content of 5005 aluminium sheet is Fe, Mg and Si, thus, it has good weld-ability and resistance to correction (especially when anodized), which resulting in suitable for marine applications. 5005 aluminium sheet is also a non-heat treatable alloy and it can be strengthened (hardened) by cold working.
