What is the difference between 5052 aluminum plate and 6061 aluminum plate?

5052 aluminum plate and 6061 aluminum plate are the aluminum plates we often use. Although they are alloy aluminum plates, they still have obvious differences.

The first is the difference in alloying elements. The alloying element of 5052 is magnesium, and the element of 6061 alloy contains silicon in addition to magnesium. Moreover, the processing conditions are different. Both the 6061 aluminum plate and the 5052 aluminum plate have accidents in the o state. The 6061 aluminum plate is generally in the state of T6 and T651, and the 5052 aluminum plate is generally in the state of H112, H24, and H32.

The difference in processing conditions and alloying elements makes these two kinds of aluminum plates different from performance to use. The 5052 aluminum plate has a wide range of applications, has fatigue strength, high plasticity and corrosion resistance, and cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. It is hardened in semi-cold work. The plasticity is still good, low plasticity when cold work hardened, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, poor machinability, and can be polished. 6061 aluminum plate has good corrosion resistance, weldability and good oxidation effect. It is widely used in various industrial structural parts that require certain strength and high corrosion resistance. 6061 aluminum plates are mostly used in places with higher requirements for strength, and 5052 aluminum plates are anti-rust aluminum alloys, which are mostly used in environments that require rust prevention.

5052 aluminum plate can be bent, 6061 aluminum plate is generally used for abrasive tools because of its high hardness, and both have good oxidation effects. The 6061 aluminum plate is much harder than the 5052, but the 5052’s bendability and plasticity are much stronger than that of the 6 series, so we have to treat it differently in actual applications.
